The fascinating and romantic history of a young American town and its alluring namesake, Isabel Smith, inspires a thrilling new American opera about perseverance, hope, and the essential human emotion of ardent yearning. Set at the turn of the century, The Ladysmith Story weaves together the captivating legend of one town’s struggle between failure and progress with the heart wrenching drama of one woman’s choice between duty and passion.

Hello and welcome.
It is with great pride and excitement that we present to you The Ladysmith Story. This announcement comes from almost two years of building a successful creative vision and securing a tremendous amount of ground-laying work. We have assembled a stellar team of some of the brightest and most talented artists in the country and I can’t wait for you to see their work come to fruition in 2010. I think you will be quite amazed.
This production will not only be a piece of superior entertainment, it will also give us an important opportunity for us to examine our past and discover something truly unique and praiseworthy about our history. It will allow us a chance to look at our ancestors, so that we may perhaps observe and see ourselves more clearly. There is an intriguing and romantic story here to be told about Ladysmith. It inspired me and I think it will inspire you too. Creating this piece of art, The Ladysmith Story, is a meaningful and profound way of honoring the history and the founding people of a truly remarkable American town.
