Letter from the Executive Producer

Hello and welcome.

It is with great pride and excitement that we present to you The Ladysmith Story. This announcement comes from almost two years of building a successful creative vision and securing a tremendous amount of ground-laying work. We have assembled a stellar team of some of the brightest and most talented artists in the country and I can’t wait for you to see their work come to fruition in 2010. I think you will be quite amazed.

This production will not only be a piece of superior entertainment, it will also give us an important opportunity for us to examine our past and discover something truly unique and praiseworthy about our history. It will allow us a chance to look at our ancestors, so that we may perhaps observe and see ourselves more clearly. There is an intriguing and romantic story here to be told about Ladysmith. It inspired me and I think it will inspire you too. Creating this piece of art, The Ladysmith Story, is a meaningful and profound way of honoring the history and the founding people of a truly remarkable American town.

I invite you to take some time and learn more about our project. Please have a look around our website and learn how you might become involved as well. We would greatly enjoy having you aboard!

Thank you very much. Here’s to outstanding art for our outstanding American communities!

Sincerely,

Brad Bradshaw
Executive Producer

The Ladysmith Story

One town’s yearning for progress.
One woman’s yearning for passion.

Music by Christopher Gable
Libretto by Merie Kirby

World Premiere July 2010

Ladysmith, Wisconsin & Minneapolis, Minnesota

Produced by The Fourtissimo! Coalition in collaboration with The Flambeau Valley Arts Association

The fascinating and romantic history of a young American town and its alluring namesake, Isabel Smith, inspires a thrilling new American opera about perseverance, hope, and the essential human emotion of ardent yearning. Set at the turn of the century, The Ladysmith Story weaves together the captivating legend of one town’s struggle between failure and progress with the heart wrenching drama of one woman’s choice between duty and passion.
